Love is the air… the love of food, that is. February is a great month to be a foodie in Rhode Island. Between Valentine’s Day dinners, the Inaugural RI VegFest, and another Sucrée event hosted by Gracie’s, we’ve already got our foodie fill. Read on for more fun this February!

Goat Hikes
Weekends in February
Take a hike, goat yoga! Simmons Farm is hosting hikes with their tribe of goats. Embrace the winter weather with a guided goat hike. Each hiker will be partnered up with a goat to walk on a leash. There will be several stops along the way to let the goats nibble and to just enjoy the time outside. Farmer Karla will host each hike and loves chatting about all things farming. The afternoon will be wrapped up with a warm cup of hot chocolate made with milk from Simmons Farm.

Providence Flea Indoor Market
Sunday, February 9 at 11 am
The Providence Flea is back in February! We love browsing the different weekly vendors and getting a coffee or lunch at the food trucks. The flea is popping up in the cafeteria at the WaterFire Arts Center until its triumphant return in the summer. February’s market is themed, “The Love You Give Market” and arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Little City Love Scene: Valentine’s Week Funny Business
Monday, February 10 at 7 pm
Do you have a funny story about dating in Rhode Island? Little City Love Scene wants to hear them! Send them your awkward, unusual, or funny stories about dating in Rhode Island. They will select their favorites and assign them to be read aloud. You can submit your stories here or email them to littlecitylovescene@gmail.com. If you don’t have a story to share or would rather keep it close to your heart, you can still attend the event for lots of laughs about love in Lil Rhody.

Stories in Stone: America’s African Burying Ground
Tuesday, February 11 from 6 pm – 7:30 pm
The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society and Providence Community Library are partnering up for a free lecture series in honor of Black History Month. This particular lecture is about “God’s Little Acre”, a historically significant burying ground in Newport. Dating back to as early as 1705, the burial ground has been recognized as possibly having the oldest and largest surviving collection of markers of enslaved and free Africans. Some of the markers indicate that the oldest were born in the late 1600s. The presentation will share how African heritage people lived, worked, worshipped and eventually died in Colonial Newport.
The lecture will take place at Mount Pleasant Library, 315 Academy Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island.
Faded Lovers Tour
Friday, February 14 from 2 pm – 3:30 pm
What’s more Rhode Island than a Valentine’s Day-themed tour of a cemetery? The North Burial Ground staff are leading a special tour detailing the stories of the cemetery’s ill-fated lovers. Learn about the unfortunate tales of lost love, murder, and memorial of notable couples interred at the North Burial Ground.

Valentine’s Day at Sarto

Our Providence food tour partner, Sarto, is hosting a very special four-course dinner on Valentine’s Day. The menu includes our favorite cacio e pepe, pan-seared scallops, braised short rib, and more. Our mouths are already watering! 24th Annual WINEterfest
Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16
Head to Newport Vineyards for two days of grape stomping, wine tasting, beer pouring, and winter fun! We love anything sweet, but especially Gracie’s seasonal Sucrée events. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Sucrée: Red Hot Valentine’s Day is a four-course celebration of all things “red hot.” The evening begins with savory hors d’œuvres and a cocktail hour, followed by four courses of seated dessert tastings accompanied by signature cocktails from Gracie’s beverage team. Newport’s British Occupation Walking Tour
Monday, February 17 from 11 am – 12 pm
Did you know that Newport was once occupied by Britain? When the Revolutionary War officially began, 7,000 British and Hessian soldiers invaded Newport. Their occupation lasted for nearly 3 years. Join an expert tour guide wearing an authentic 18th century British military uniform and explore the sites and stories of the soldiers and citizens affected during this time.

Winter Skate Break

The Inaugural RI VegFest
Sunday, February 23 from 12 pm – 4 pm
Calling all Rhode Island vegans, vegetarians or plant-based curious! The Inaugural RI VegFest has a little something for everyone interested in a plant-based lifestyle. VegFest will have dozens of vendors, nonprofit organizations, restaurants, bars, cookbook authors, and more at their first exhibition.
