Happy August! The days are longer, the sun is hot, and the fun is just getting started. Don’t let the summer slip away, we’ve rounded up 17 events to help make it last a little longer. We have all the summer music festivals, antique shows, bar crawls and more! Check these off your Rhode Island summer bucket lists their sure to leave you with lasting memories to savor your summer!

Newport Jazz Festival
Friday, August 2 – Sunday, August 4
Newport Jazz Festival is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. For three days, jazz musicians and bands take over Fort Adams for a one-of-a-kind music festival. This year’s lineup includes big names like Jon Batiste, Common, Corinne Bailey Rae, Herbie Hancock, and Thundercat. Artists perform on four stages spread out over the grounds, so it’s best to plan ahead if you have someone, in particular, you’d like to see perform. In addition to the music are two beer and wine gardens, food trucks and vendors, crafts, and displays.

Meet the Bees: Saturday Morning Workshop
Saturday, August 3 from 9:30 am – 11 am
Meet the Bees at What Cheer Flower Farm! Try on a beekeeper’s outfit, take a peek inside the farm’s honeybee hive, tour a pollinator garden patch, and taste test lots of local honey. Whether you’re simply curious about bees or contemplating starting your own hive, this workshop is going to be sweet fun.
Tickets are $15 and all of the proceeds go to support the bees at What Cheer Flower Farm. You can purchase tickets here. Tickets are limited to 10 per workshop. Attendees must be age 12+.

Antiques Festival and Classic Auto Show
Saturday, August 3 from 10 am – 4 pm
The more antiques, the better! Find your new favorite treasure at the Antiques Festival, featuring 25 antiques dealers from around New England. Grab a snack an then head over to the Classic Car Show to admire dozens of vintage vehicles. Vote for your favorite vehicle and stick around for the award ceremony.
Tickets to the Antiques Festival and Classic Auto Show are $12 and will be available at the event.

Friends Trivia Bar Crawl
Saturday, August 3 from 4 pm – 12 am
Friends may be leaving Netflix in 2020, but it’s coming to Providence in 2019. The Friends Trivia Bar Crawl includes trivia at four bars with 25 unique trivia questions at each stop. Bring a group of up to 7 friends (8 total including you) to compete for the Geller Cup! After the bar crawl, hang out at the after-party to mingle other Friends fanatics and keep the party going.

Miantonomi Open Tower Days
Every Saturday in August starting at 11 am
Climb to the top of Miantonomi Tower and enjoy the view from the highest point on the island! The tower is in Miantonomi Park, surrounded by nature trails, picnic areas, and a playground. Miantonomi Tower will be open for climbing and enjoying every Saturday from 11 am – 2 pm.
To find the tower, head to 120 Hillside Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. A path from the parking lot will lead you right to the tower.
WaterFire Full Lighting
Saturday, August 3 and Saturday, August 17 at sunset
WaterFire season is in winding down for the fall. There are only a few more full lightings scheduled before the end of their 2019 season. The current schedule is available here.
If you have yet to experience WaterFire, put it at the top of your summer bucket list! Come in the afternoon for a food tour, take a late afternoon boat tour then sit and soak in the unique experience. Between the music and the magical atmosphere, it’s something you’ll never forget.

Pawchella
Sunday, August 4 from 2 pm – 5 pm
Dog-lovers only! Pawchella at The Guild is a fundraiser for Vintage Pet Rescue, a senior dog retirement home in Rhode Island. Check out their Instagram for super cute photos! Pawchella has an awesome lineup of dog and human-friendly activities, including pet-themed art and gifts, professional photographs, and more. If you’re looking for a new BFF, Friends of Homeless Animals will be there with some of their adoptable dogs.
Pawchella tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased here. Tickets are available at the door for $20.

Jazz Tuesdays at Yoleni’s
Every Tuesday in August starting at 7:30 pm
Our Providence food tour partner, Yoleni’s, is hosting free Jazz Tuesdays every week this month. Grab one of their yummy meals and snacks, sit back, and enjoy the music. We’d recommend sipping on some Greek Honey Soda and enjoying their authentic Greek yogurt for an after-dinner snack!

Beach Bash – Norman Bird Sanctuary
Thursday, August 8 from 6 pm – 9 pm
Gather up the family and head to Third Beach for Norman Bird Sanctuary’s annual Beach Bash! Dance to live music from The TeleDynes, pack a picnic or pick up food from one of the vendors. Complimentary beer, wine, lemonade, and iced tea will be served. There will also be Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and s’mores to roast by the fire. Jamestown Outdoors is offering complimentary kayaks and paddleboards for everyone’s fun and enjoyment. The sanctuary’s education staff will be leading activities for the kiddos.

The Washington County Fair
Wednesday, August 14 – Sunday, August 18
Nothing says summer more than “county fair.” The Washington County Fair has all of the classic events, including 4-H, arts & crafts, rides, pull divisions, country music, and much more. There is plenty to keep the whole family busy! Find the full list of events and schedule here. Admission to the fair is $11 for adults. Children under age 10 are free.

On The Lawn 2019
Saturday, August 17 from 4 pm – 9 pm
On The Lawn is an indoor and outdoor summer celebration of the local art community. Check out their vendor market, live entertainment, food and drinks, yard games, and family-friendly activities.
General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. On the Lawn 2019 will take place at the Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island, located at 393 Broad Street in Providence, Rhode Island.

Augtoberfest
Sunday, August 18 from 3 pm – 7 pm
Augtoberfest features live brass music, food from Great Northern BBQ, an inflatable slip ‘n slide, games, competitions, and BEER! This is a 21+ event. There are a variety of ticket options with tier pricing. All tickets include a bottle of water.
Designated Driver $15 – entry to the festival
Jester $25 – entry + two beer tickets
Prince $35 – entry + three beer tickets + commemorative cup
King $45 – entry + three beer tickets + commemorative cup + $5 food ticket + $10 take-home beer voucher

Heritage Fire Newport
Saturday, August 24 from 5 pm – 7:30 pm
Calling all meat-lovers and foodies! Heritage Fire is a whole-animal, live-fire and elevated culinary experience. “Heritage Fire is a food and wine event featuring 2,000+ pounds of fire-kissed meat roasted en plein air by 20+ top chefs. Providence Folk Festival
Sunday, August 25 from 12 pm – 6 pm
Providence Folk Festival is a free festival featuring some of the finest acoustic, folk and Americana singer-songwriters. Chill out and listen to some folk. The festival has two stages – the main stage and the songcrafter stage. To add to the good vibes, the festival is at Rose Larisa Park, which overlooks the beautiful Narragansett Bay.

Sucrée: Summer Evening Picnic
Saturday, August 25 at 5 pm
Our Providence food tour partner and fine dining hot spot, Gracie’s, is hosting Sucrée: Summer Evening Picnic this month. Sucrée is a dessert-focused dining event, bringing together three of the area’s most innovative pastry chefs. Caitlyn McGuire of Ellie’s (Gracie’s sister restaurant), Brian Mercury of Boston’s Oak + Rowan, and Gracie’s own Melissa Denmark will be cooking up the sweets. Each chef will present his or her signature dessert course. Before the dessert, enjoy savory hors d’œuvres and drinks at cocktail hour. “The evening’s summer picnic-themed menu will focus on the incredible ingredients that this short and sweet season has to offer, drawing inspiration from the fresh herbs, flowers, and fruits that define summer in Rhode Island.” Cocktails will be served along with each course to complement the dessert. Everyone will dine at a communal table with a view of the summer sunset.
